Members have visited the following places and reckon they rock:

  1.  Melrose South Australia
  2. Sparrow Hill Canberra
  3. Majura Pines Canberra

 Melrose South Australia

Felix Smalley has just come back from a trip to SA where he and his Dad Andy checked out Melrose Mountain Bike Park.  If you love Lysterfield and give it a 10 out of 10 then Felix says Melrose is 15 out of 10.  Only a two day drive.

Sparrow Hill Canberra

If you like sweeping single track in a pine forest check this place out.  Its like perpetual motion you won't even know you are pedaling its that intense.

Majura Pines Canberra

Once you have done Sparrow Hill check out Majura Pines the place is also awesome.

Weekly dirt criteriums are organised  by our friends Knobbysports.  Every Wednesday night 6:00 pm, for a 6.30pm start.   Located on private property in Bushy Park Lane, Wantirna South. These will be held in the summer once daylight saving starts.  Anyone can come and you don't need to have a licence.

This is an excellent introduction for youth to learn racing in a friendly and nutruing environment.  Races last for up to 30 minutes and you can choose A, B, C or D as a category.  This is also a great way to get intensity into your training program.

North Road ride:

Leaves 6.00am Cnr North Rd + Nepean Hwy Gardenvale. Travels along Nepean Hwy to Mordialloc roundabout and back up to Cafe Racer in St Kilda. The distance is approximately 40km with Monday, Wednesday, and Friday being ridden at a recovery/slower pace getting back to Racer around 7.20 am. Tuesday's and Thursday's are fast day's, arriving back around 6.55am.

Alpine Tour of the Suburbs:

Leaves 6.30pm Thursdays from SBR (Punt Rd near St Kilda Junction). The bunch heads north along Chapel St and on to Yarra Boulevard. Some riders congregate on Yarra Blvd under Studley Park Rd around 6:50pm to jump on when the bunch comes past. Travel out into the suburban hills via Kew, Balwyn and Doncaster, then back via Heidelberg, where several laps of the challenging "Col du Burgundy St" hill are undertaken. Return back through Ivanhoe and Yarra Boulevard once again to St Kilda. Distance is about 60km and includes several KOM and sprint points along the way, with the bunch regrouping after each effort. Good hill work and a little technical in parts. Arrive back in St Kilda around 9pm, with pasta and wine on Fitzroy St usually following.

Fitzroy Cycles Ride:

Leaves the city store in Swanston St at 6:15pm Tuesday nights, travels down St Kilda Rd and onto Barkly St in St Kilda, then along Broadway to New st Brighton and onto Beach Rd to Mordialloc and back. A lot of riders wait for the bunch at the corner of Barkly St and Carlisle St about 6.35pm. Pace down is generally an easy 30-32kph. Returning from
Mordialloc is pretty much flat chat!(35-50kph) Back at St Kilda by 8.00-8.15pm.

KFC Bunch (via carnegie cycling club)

The perfect way to recover after a tough race the day before, while getting more miles in your legs, and getting to know more of your fellow Club Members is to join the Club's popular training ride. The KFC Bunch meets any Sunday Mornings that there is no Club Race on, at the KFC on the corner of Princes Highway, Springvale Rd and Police Rd at 8.00am. The bunch heads down Springvale Rd to our alternative meeting point on the corner of Edithvale Rd and Station St at around 8.30am. The bunch then rides down through Frankston, Mt Eliza and Mornington on Nepean Highway, before a left turn onto Bentons Rd, across the Moorooduc Highway to Derril Rd and a loop back into Frankston up the infamous Two Bays Rd climb. Most riders continue on to the Clock Tower at Black Rock at around 11.00, where there's usually time for a coffee and a chat. Distance is around 100km.
The ride is not a hammer session - in fact you may incur the wrath of the bunch if you drive too hard up Oliver's Hill or any other incline. There is also a compulsory break to wait for stragglers at the top of Two Bays Rd.

Dirt Rider members are racers.  To race we need to train.  Training is a science and is more than just getting out of bed early and riding.  Your body needs to be conditioned and prepared in a process that gets you ready for your goal event.

So how do you do this?  We can't answer this for you but we do know some people you can.  Please refer to the attached websites for some clues.
